Tips and Tricks with Common DAWs

REAPER (Windows & Mac)

No Sound or No Input Detected

1. OpenPreferences → Audio → Device.
   
   

2. Windows:
   
   

• Set Audio System toWASAPI.
  
  

• Mode:Exclusive for best performance orShared if system audio is needed.
  
  

• SelectUMX-2 Input andUMX-2 Output.
  
  

3. Mac:
   
   

• Set Audio System toCoreAudio and chooseUMX-2 for input and output.
  
  

4. On the track, confirm:
   
   

• Record Arm is enabled.
  
  

• Monitor Input is enabled.
  
  

• Input 1 orInput 2 is selected correctly.
  
  

High Latency

• Lower theblock size (128–256 recommended).
  
  

• Close other audio applications that may interfere.
  
  

Audio Cutting Out

• Switch WASAPI mode toShared if using other audio programs alongside Reaper.

ABLETON LIVE

No Audio Input Available

1. Go toPreferences → Audio.
   
   

2. Select driver typeWASAPI (Windows).
   
   

3. ChooseUMX-2 as both the input and output device.
   
   

4. OpenInput Config and enableInput 1 andInput 2.
   
   

Distorted or Crackling Audio

• Adjust buffer size underAudio → Latency.
  
  

• Toggle betweenExclusive andShared WASAPI modes.
  
  

• Close browser applications such as Chrome.
  
  

• Disconnect Bluetooth devices that force sample-rate changes.
  
  

Cannot Hear Input While Recording

1. Arm the track.
   
   

2. Set Monitor toIn orAuto.
   
   

3. Use the UMX-2’sDirect Monitor for zero-latency monitoring if preferred.

LOGIC PRO (Mac)

Inputs Not Appearing

1. Go toLogic Pro → Settings → Audio.
   
   

2. SelectUMX-2 as both the input and output device.
   
   

3. Restart Logic after changing devices.
   
   

Only One Side Recording

• For microphones, selectInput 1 orInput 2 (mono), not stereo.
  
  

• Adjust gain on the UMX-2 as needed.
  
  

Echo or Feedback During Monitoring

• Disable Logic’sSoftware Monitoring when using UMX-2’s direct monitor.
  
  

• Ensure only one monitoring method is active at a time.

CUBASE (Windows)

Device Not Showing or Not Available

1. OpenStudio → Studio Setup.
   
   

2. UnderAudio System, selectGeneric Low-Latency ASIO Driver.
   
   

3. Inside the ASIO driver panel, chooseUMX-2 for both input and output.
   
   

4. If the device does not appear, disable “Exclusive Mode” in Windows Sound Settings and restart Cubase.
   
   

Inputs Not Working

1. Go toStudio → Audio Connections → Inputs.
   
   

2. Create or enableMono Input 1 andMono Input 2.
   
   

3. Assign each to the correct UMX-2 channels.
   
   

4. Arm track and enable monitoring.
   
   

Dropouts or Unstable Playback

• UseGeneric Low-Latency ASIO Driver.
  
  

• Set buffer size to 256–512.
  
  

• Close background applications that access audio.
  
  

• Match Windows sample rate to48 kHz.

CAKEWALK (Windows)

No Input Signal

1. OpenPreferences → Audio → Playback & Recording.
   
   

2. Set Driver Mode toWASAPI Exclusive orWASAPI Shared.
   
   

3. EnableUMX-2 Input andUMX-2 Output under Devices.
   
   

4. SelectMono Input 1 orMono Input 2 on the track.
   
   

Audio Dropouts

• Increase buffer size.
  
  

• Disable “Suspend Audio Engine When Cakewalk Is Not in Focus.”
  
  

• Close other audio-active apps (Chrome, Zoom, Discord).
  
  

Recording Only Left/Right

• Ensure the track input is set toMono, not stereo.

GENERAL UMX-2 TROUBLESHOOTING (All DAWs)

No Audio Output

• Confirm UMX-2 is powered.
  
  

• Verify system audio device is set toUMX-2.
  
  

• Check speaker or headphone connections.
  
  

• If using direct monitoring, adjust theMonitor Mix knob.
  
  

Low Input Level

• Increase the gain knob on the UMX-2.
  
  

• Ensure microphone is connected to the XLR input.
  
  

• Enable 48V phantom power for condenser microphones.
  
  

• Check microphone orientation.
  
  

Device Busy or Not Available (Windows)

• Close other applications using the audio device.
  
  

• Turn off Bluetooth audio devices.
  
  

• Reconnect the UMX-2.
  
  

Unwanted Noise or Hum

• • Use a different USB-C cable.
    
    

  • Avoid USB hubs.
    
    

  • Move cables away from laptop power adapters.
    
    

  • Keep gain below clipping.
